36 Hours and Counting

In less than 36 hours we’ll be punishing ourselves as we ride through the “rolling” hills of Stafford County. We’re all getting a bit giddy – talking through-out the day in quick snippets of conversations about the status of our bikes, who is brining the water, are we okay with the hotels, etc…

Once in a while someone will pipe up about the weather – but in the end – who cares. Come the rain, heat or cold – we’ll still ride. We believe in our mission to much. We believe in honoring our fallen brothers and sisters, as well as their families.

I still need to pack my clothes, write a speech and do some last minute route analysis – it will all come together.

This year, as several of you know, we are riding for two wonderful organizations – Concerns of Police Survivors (COPS) and the Officer Down Memorial Page (ODMP). Please take a few minutes to read about both and consider partnering with them – they are wonderful partners and defenders of the good fight.

COPS provides resources to assist in the rebuilding of the lives of surviving families and affected co-workers of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty as determined by Federal criteria. Furthermore, C.O.P.S. provides training to law enforcement agencies on survivor victimization issues and educates the public of the need to support the law enforcement profession and its survivors.

ODMP is a non-profit organization dedicated to honoring America's fallen law enforcement heroes. More than 19,000 officers have made the ultimate sacrifice in the United States and it is with great honor that the ODMP pays a lasting tribute to each of these officers by preserving their memories within its pages. All who visit the ODMP will be deeply moved by the countless stories of selfless courage and heroism exhibited by officers who lost their lives while serving and protecting the citizens of this great nation.

The following agents were returning from a counter-narcotics operation when the military helicopter they were riding in crashed. Seven military service members were also killed. These agents worked with our friend and fellow rider Carson. These fine agents, the soldiers that worked with them, their sacrifices, and the friends and family that they have left behind, are our motivation.

May God bless them, their family and friends.
