This recap is coming in a few hours late. We had a quick ride yesterday, through some of the most beautiful areas of the Commonwealth. More or less, we took this route. We had a detour through Richmond, so we could grab a bite to eat. After lunch, we took a ride through the Richmond Battlefield, were I got to play tour guide for a few minutes discussing the battle at Malvern Hill.
Everyone on the team is doing good, not as money complaints about soreness and tiredness, as there was from the day before. But even so, you can see the soreness on everyone. We were able to do laundry last night so we will all smell good for at least a few hours.
If you are reading this from out of state and you are going to participate in the long ride - our advice to you is to bring some good sport's sunscreen. We're all a bit redder in color, and that's with sunscreen on. The sun is powerful right now.
We may hit some rain on day 3, our final day of the DEA FAST ride. We'll get to our hotel around mid-afternoon and we will have the opportunity to see several old friends. The route is pretty flay and it looks to be a fast day for us.
I just wanted to take a personal moment to thank my team. A little over a week ago, I suffered a few injuries from being a DT instructor. I had two bruised patellas and a bruised right femur. I didn't think I was going to be able to make the ride. I was hobbling around the house and it pained me to walk down a flight of stairs. But because I have a good team, they have adjusted to let me get my legs back under me. They understand my pain, but that isn't stopping them from taking my name and making it synonymous with "slow or drag." I know its done out of love and to motivate me - and for that I appreciate it. Like I said in my previous post - I'm surrounded by men of the highest character.
Hopefully, we can get a few more of the members to post in the next few days.
