I haven't shared this with many of the other riders - but a few weeks ago a good friend of mine met someone who works for the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund. During this conversation, my past work with the Police Unity Tour was brought up and it was disclosed that I had left the PUT to join the Law Enforcement United Team. The employee of the Fund said - oh the Separatists - in a joking manner and acknowledged that we would continue to do great work for COPS and the ODMP. He stated that the split from the PUT was a shame - but he understood the different sides.
I tell this story to say the following: I have never been prouder of being a Separatist then today. Emotions welled up in each of us during the arrival ceremony. I especially found it touching when several of the Survivors came into the crowd to give us hugs and thank us for the work we do. This is the work of the Separatists - to take care of the families of those who laid down their lives in the performance of their duties. This is our charge, our mission and we will continue the fight.
I am proud to be a member of the Law Enforcement Community - the best group of people one could be affiliated with. I am also proud to be a member of the Law Enforcement United and finally...
I am proud to be a Separatist.
